Impressions 2Penelope Bushman grew up surrounded by the beautiful sand dunes of northern Indiana. Living close to the beach she was inspired to paint watercolors of the area at the age of 14. As a teenager she also studied sculpting under the direction of an Egyptian sculptor named Mustafa Naguib.

Penelope moved to Arizona in 1980 after completing her training in fine art at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. The move introduced her to an entirely different palette, reflecting the rich beauty of the Southwest. "The ever-changing desert and the gorgeous sunsets are a continuous source of inspiration."

Recent works reflect an interest in petroglyphs. "It fascinates me that every society has artists, those who need to communicate through imagery."

Bushman is nationally recognized as an artist of contemoporary mixed media, ranging from watercolor collage, to oil on canvas. her work is diverse, always evolving, and displays her love of texture and great sense of color.
